How Schmalz Turned an End-of-Support Threat into a Modernization Opportunity
Schmalz is a market leader in automation for vacuum technology and ergonomic handling systems. The online shop is at the heart of its business model. But with Adobe announcing the end of support for Magento 1, Schmalz needed an alternative, and fast!
An Opportunity to Modernize
The Schmalz online shop is selling spare parts, automating labor-intensive and manual processes, and offering self-service options to customers. End-of-support for Magento meant that Schmalz was facing potential security vulnerabilities and poor user experience. With its vision to expand into new markets with IoT-based capabilities rapidly, there was an indisputable need for a modern e-commerce platform to propel Schmalz forward.
Cutting Edge E-Commerce with commercetools and Bloomreach
Schmalz's new e-commerce platform is built with commercetools and Bloomreach, running on AWS. All existing content was migrated from the Magento 1 and TYPO3 setup. We’ve also taken charge of the platform evolution to ensure more relevant content and new features on the platform. Designed with MACH principles, the platform is set up to realize Schmalz’s business vision for the future.
A Future-Ready Platform Geared for Growth
Factors such as cost, security, support, scalability, IoT integration, and a more flexible CMS influenced the technology selection. Schmalz now has scalable cloud infrastructure, a more flexible content management process, and enriched commerce capabilities on a user-friendly platform.
Into the future with MACH
The platform runs on modern, secure, scalable, and performing architecture and cloud-based infrastructure. With all its bases covered - sales, platform evolution, and platform operations - Schmalz is now well prepared to deliver against its growth plan.
