OBI GmbH & Co. Deutschland KG is a leading multinational DIY chain with a Europe-wide network of 668 stores, 351 of which are in Germany. In order to strengthen its online business and attract new customers, OBI was looking for a strong partner to create its own online marketplace – and found one in mindcurv.

A strategic outlook to implementation and technology selection

The main objective was to significantly expand the product range and service offering and provide OBI customers with an even better user experience.

As a first step, mindcurv supported OBI in developing the marketplace and technology strategy. In addition to technical feasibility, a particular focus was placed on the necessary process adjustments and organisational changes resulting from the new model. mindcurv also supported OBI in selecting the technology and platform architecture and advised on strategic and implementation issues.

Value-added marketplace, increased turnover and diversity through third-party providers

The project is currently in the implementation phase with the challenge of seamlessly integrating the marketplace into OBI's digital retail environment. At the same time, the necessary DevOps infrastructure is being set up and the necessary platform support structures and processes are being established. 

A key element of the marketplace is the opportunity to generate additional revenue. In addition to strengthening online revenue streams through expanded organic reach, OBI will act as an intermediary for third-party providers and generate revenue through transaction commissions. Other key elements for the launch of the marketplace are the connection of numerous third-party providers who will be able to offer their product ranges on the Obi marketplace and thus significantly improve the product offering for end customers and offer a large number of additional, high-quality products as well as a variety of additional services.
